Noodle Palace Teriyaki
It was supposed to be a one-time thing.
It was supposed to be a one-time thing — a sauce for a backyard cookout, put together from what was in the pantry. A splash of soy. A scoop of brown sugar. Honey from the jar in the back of the cabinet. A little ginger, a little garlic, whatever the fridge gave up. We brushed it on chicken thighs, set them over the coals, and figured that was the end of it.
It wasn’t.
The jar went home with a friend. Then her sister called. Then a neighbor showed up with an empty mason jar and a hopeful look. Pretty soon we were making it by the gallon, just to keep up. Birthdays. Block parties. Tuesday nights when nobody felt like cooking but everyone wanted to eat together anyway.
